BAMBOO SCREENING
By far the greatest usage of Clumping Bamboo is going into living fences and privacy screens. Mostly into the cities where the need for privacy barriers increases with smaller lot sizes.
Why so popular? The Clumping Bamboos are some of the fastest growing plants on Earth. Most people who need privacy need it urgently. In most cases, we can get privacy within the first 12 month period. Or if you start with advanced or super advanced stock it can be done instantly.
Bamboo gets thicker and taller as it grows therefore more effective over time. Consider a timber fence costing upwards of $100 per linear metre which will need painting and maintenance and will never really do the job. You can plant bamboo from $20 per linear metre and sit back and enjoy watching it grow. Both modern and more traditional garden designs are able to utilise the beautiful forms that bamboo can provide.
As a quick guide, the best smaller-size screens are Goldstripe, Bonnie Bamboo and Tiger Grass. If you live in a cooler climate, we suggest species like Alphonse Karr and others in the Multiplex species.
If you live in warmer areas (as far South as Sydney) try the variegated Malay Dwarf. These all grow to around 3-4metres or single storey height.
Moderate-sized bamboos would include Chinese Dwarf, Lipstick bamboo, Tamiang, Murray Island bamboo and Giant Buddha Belly. These are in the 4-6metre range.
Larger screens are of course our very popular, best selling bamboo Gracilis. Dark Weavers, Green Malay, Ghost Bamboo, China Gold and Barbaletta. These satisfy the need for a two-storey screen and grow 6-10 metres tall.
Bigger-sized screens will be obtained from the Oldhamii Bamboo, Emperor Blue, Timor Black, Java black, and the largest species we do Asper.
