You can still plant the Gracilis at 1 to 1.5m spacings in a 30cm wide bed, however the fact that the plants are restricted to the smaller bed size will impact their overall height. I imagine they will only grow to 3-4m tall at most. I would recommend 1m spacings to achieve better density, 1.5m would be too big of a gap in this case and the plants would be unlikely to grow into each other.

Re: Planting in a 30cm bed, i.e. 15cm from a fence, is it still fine to plant at 1-1.5m spaces or do they need to be more densely planted to make up for the narrow bed?

We usually recommend planting at 1 to 1.5m spacings to achieve a good dense privacy hedge, so 1.3m spacings/50 plants would suffice for your requirements. The plants will then reach their potential 6-8m tall at these spacings. I would suggest planting them at approx 50cm from the fenceline if you have the space to do this, this will allow them to reach their full height potential of 6-8m tall and base diameter of approx 1m wide without being too close to the fence. They will however grow to a smaller diameter if given a smaller garden bed. We have had customers plant in 30cm wide beds next to their carports and still achieve a good 3-4m screen.

Thank you for your enquiry. Due to Quarantine restrictions it is only viable for us to ship large quantities to W.A. If you are after a substantial quantity of bamboo please email me with details and I will be happy to prepare a quote for you. Alternately I suggest you try to source your bamboo locally if you are only after a smaller quantity. Cheers!

I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that I am delighted with the plants. It has been a pleasure to deal with you and you have put up with my stupid questions and queries well. Your plants look great, were cheaper than I found elsewhere, and your service wonderful. I've been recommending you to others already.
Thanks again

Wow! We have received the bamboo and can't wipe the smile from our faces. Thank you. They are so beautiful, all in all that is the best money we have spent. We will be planting this weekend so things are very exciting for us. We'll try to send you some "before and after" pictures. Thanks again.
Kindest regards,
Naomi and Didier.
P.S. The delivery driver was also very helpful as he brought them all inside my front yard.

Gracilis is often used for planting around pools due to its excellent privacy screening habit. However, keep in mind that bamboo does tend to drop leaves (as do all living plants) so there will be some maintenance required removing leaves from the pool. It is best to plant as far from the edge of the pool as your space allows to minimise the amount of leaf dropping into the pool.

Most clumping bamboo will be fine in pots, however remember they will have a much larger water requirement than when planted in ground. The Gracilis is often used for screening around pools, both in pots and in ground planting. We have not had any negative feedback about planting in the ground around the pool as the roots are fibrous matting type roots, no tap roots etc that can do a lot of damage to pipes , however I can not speak from personal experience so I would not advise you to plant in ground, it would have to be your decision to make. The Gracilis gets to 6-8m tall in ground, obviously the size it will get to will be restricted by the pot size you keep them in for e.g in a pot approx 400mm diameter x 400mm deep they wont get any larger than approx 4m tall. It really depends on the height of the privacy screen you require as to what species and pot size would be best. Also we usually suggest planting at 1m spacings to achieve a privacy screen, however in pots you would have to space them at a maximum of 50cm to get foliage coverage I would say.
