ABOUT BAMBOOS WHOLESALE

Bamboos Wholesale is situated just south of the tropic of Capricorn on the lush banks of the Boyne River.

Beginning in 1988 the original design for the 33 acre property was one of a tropical food and ornamental garden based on Permaculture principles. We also wanted to maintain a large area of the property as untouched Australian bush.

The first Bamboo arrived in 1992 and quickly became a garden favourite. From an initially modest dozen or so plants the display now boasts over 120 varieties of Bamboo which share the property with over 150 varieties of edible fruits, nuts, vegetables and bush food plants.

From initially propagating a few plants for ourselves and friends we established Asper Garden Bamboo as a business in 1997, primarily as a retail nursery. We also focused on marketing Bamboo to the public via Garden shows, Horticultural expos and markets in an effort to raise the profile of Bamboo and rid it of the bad reputation that had been created by running (invasive) varieties. It was vital for us to convince the public of the fact that not all Bamboo would grow rampant. We wanted our customers to experience the beauty of clumping (non-invasive) Bamboos in their own gardens.

In 1999 we recognised an opportunity to supply a much larger market. We changed the focus of our business to a wholesale nursery and established Bamboos Wholesale. We now supply tens of thousands of plants to nurseries throughout Australia and recently to a promising overseas market.
